Meaning of Annual, Biennial and Perennial Plants in Botany / Gardening

What is the Meaning of Annual, Biennial and Perennial Plants in Botany / Gardening? Learn Annual biennial perennial difference and examples. Annuals - are Plants that complete their entire life cycle from seed to flower to seed within a single growing season. All roots, stems and leaves of the plant die annually. Only the seed is the successor of these plant generations. So when it dies, its dead and not coming back. Best examples are Tomatoes and Peppers and most vegetables. Biennials - Plants which require two years to complete their life cycle. In First season growth occurs in the form of leaves and in the second season's growth stem elongation occurs, then flowering and seed formation occurs followed by the entire plant's death. Best example is Onion. Perennials – are Plants that persist for many growing seasons, that is more than two years. Generally for perennials the top portion of the plant dies back each winter and regrows in spring from the same root system. Many perennial plants do keep their leaves year round and many perennials can be evergreen like the most of our common trees and plants. Best example - ROSE is a perennial plant.
