Canning Tomatoes for Beginners - Water Bath Canning

Elaina shares the basics of using a water bath canning set-up for canning tomatoes. She explains how to blanch tomatoes to remove the skin, how to prep the jars, and how to properly pack the canning jars for sealing. Elaina uses Ball Canning jars and lids, and uses a recipe from the Ball Blue Book Canning Preserving book.
The Ball Blue Book Canning Preserving book is about ~ $10-12.
Some additional tips for Canning Beginners:
- Processing times will very based on the recipe and size jar you are using. It is important to follow a recipe from a reputable company or website.
- You should allow at least 12 hours for cooling before checking the seal of your jars.
- If your jars don't seal properly the first time, you can reprocess them. Make sure to clean the rims of the jars again and tighten the lid to fingertip tight.
