The U.S. and other NATO members are slapping Russia with a slew of sanctions, a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his troops into Donetsk and Luhansk, two of Ukraine's rebel-held regions, for a "peacekeeping mission." Jackson Proskow explains the sanctions imposed, and the concerns about whether they'll even make a difference.

Meanwhile the escalation is also growing more anxiety among people in Ukraine. But as Crystal Goomansingh reports, a sense of national unity is also rising. To the aftermath of Ottawa's disruptive convoy protests - Tamara Lich, a key organizer of the "Freedom Convoy" has been denied bail, leaving her behind bars until her trial. In Nova Scotia, nearly two years after one of Canada's worst mass shootings transpired in that province, a public inquiry into the rampage has begun. As Ross Lord reports, Premier Tim Houston has joined survivors and victims' families in expressing concerns about how the inquiry will be conducted.

In the United Kingdom, despite Buckingham Palace saying she's only experiencing mild COVID-19 symptoms, Queen Elizabeth has cancelled all her virtual engagements. As Redmond Shannon reports, the monarch scaling back her duties is only raising concerns about how she's doing.
