How we’ve reduced our waste during our house build ⬇️

- We break down cardboard boxes and place them in a recycling bin
- We organized all of the scrap wood from framing on pallets based on size and placed tarps over top
- Tiny pieces of lumber went to a local artist who uses scrap wood for her creations
- We are using large plastic pieces to protect our garage doors while painting doors
- All of the excess metal is being saved so that we can use it for a future chicken coop
- Scrap metal pieces will go to the scrap metal yard along with other scrap metal we have at the farm

We obviously still have waste that needs discarded and we just use regular trash bags for that!

I’m honestly surprised that we haven’t produced more waste during this process.

Do you think we can make it the entire build without a dumpster?! 😅

ABOUT US: We are Alex and Elaina, a couple in our 20s who are currently living on the 3-acre farm in southern Pennsylvania where Alex grew up. We have a garden, backyard chickens, and build or fix anything that we need to. We still work corporate day jobs, but are working to eventually leave the 9-5 lifestyle in favor of a self-built, debt-free, homestead on 6 acres nearby.
