Hakodate is a port city in southern Hokkaido (the northernmost main island of Japan), and because of its proximity to the sea it's famous for fresh seafood (especially sushi)! We actually didn't pick out any restaurants in advance for our trip (since who knew what time we'd finish filming each day, or where we might even end up), so we mostly relied on advice from hotel or sharehouse staff to get an idea of what the cities had to offer!

This restaurant, Bentenzushi, was recommended to us by the guy who ran the sharehouse we stayed at. It was only a block over and I think the owners both knew each other, but it was fantastic! The whole place was empty for just about all of our meal, but the price was really reasonable (most sets of sushi were just over 1000 yen) and it was way better quality than anything I'd ever had in Aichi! Jun and I ordered two sets, 4 salmon nigiri, and 2 maguro tekkamaki rolls, and walked out STUFFED for about 3,700 yen.
