Discovered in 1991 by Gilles Peterson, a producer fresh from the Acid Jazz scene and recent boss of the Talkin' Loud label, Omar first came to the attention of the general public with the hit “There's Nothing Like This”; a soulful ballad that achieved well-deserved international success. In addition to artistic collaborations with a host of American artists (just listen to his work with Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, Leon Ware and Lamont Dozier), Omar went on to make a name for himself on the small screen, attesting to the unique richness of his artistic career.
Backed by a tight band, including a synchronous trumpet and saxophone duo, the British singer kicks off this Analogue session at Le Claque studio with “High Heels.” Carried by a round, heady bass, Omar's voice radiates with force. Another highlight of this Le Claque studio set is the funky “I Want It to Be” with its soulful chorus. Finally, the powerful track “Simplify” features vintage keyboards and an insane melody line, a trademark of this endearing musician.
