On 12 April 1996, Prince Edward spoke to ITN's Nicholas Owen about a new documentary produced by the prince's TV production company, Ardent Productions, on the life of King Edward VIII, later the Duke of Windsor. At one point during the interview, the prince said that, far from helping him in his private business ventures, being the child of Queen Elizabeth II was in many ways a disadvantage. "It does have its problems," Edward told an evidently surprised Owen, adding that in most cases, "the pros" of being a Royal only "marginally outweigh the cons".
