The Forum: Conversations at YBCA is a new quarterly series of moderated conversations with artists, activists, and thought-leaders. The series exemplifies YBCA's ongoing commitment to serving as a communal meeting place for the discussion and dissemination of contemporary ideas.
For our second program, YBCA is pleased to welcome Van Jones, the globally recognized and award-winning pioneer in human rights and the clean energy economy. Jones worked as the green jobs advisor to the Obama administration in 2009, during which time he helped run the inter-agency process that oversaw $80 billion in green recovery spending. A Yale-educated attorney, Jones is founding president of Rebuild the Dream, a pioneering initiative to restore good jobs and economic opportunity, as well as co-founder of three thriving organizations: the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Color of Change, and Green For All. Jones is the author of the New York Times bestsellers Rebuild the Dream and The Green Collar Economy. Time magazine named Jones one of the 100 most influential people in the world. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children. Jones will be joined on stage by award-winning, nationally-known journalist Farai Chideya, whose reporting has been featured in Newsweek, The New York Times, and on National Public Radio.
