A long lost chill out mix from the late 90's featuring a diverse set of artists such as Fleetwood Mac, U2, Massive Attack, Moby, Cinematic Orchestra & Goldfrapp. Mixed on vinyl - well it was the 90's - you can hear the crackles (or is that the waves rippling across the an Ibizan beach?).

A word from the DJ...

Rummaging through an old box of CD''s I found one with "Balearic Chillout" scrawled on it. Curiosity got the best of me, I had a listen and it quickly came back to me. The idea - I think - was a #chilloutmix for a broad audience (long before the generation wars). Result was some recognisable mainstream stuff with classic tracks from the late 60's (Fleetwood Mac), early 80's (U2 - hold your judgement), then from the late 80's the Balearic Classic 'Autumn Love as well as what might be described as 'standard chill out fare' from the late 90's/early 00's (Moby, Goldfrapp etc).

Funnily enough, what this broad church captures, possibly unintentionally - it was a long time ago, memory fails me - is the essence of what 'Balearic' meant before the superstar DJ's and super clubs invaded Ibiza, ergo; no rules, no judgement, no trying to be cool, just music that nourishes the soul (plus plenty of the #cafedelmar type chill out thing). Trick being of course, to curate and sequence, what at might first appear to be a ragtag selection of tracks from all over the place, into one cohesive mix.

Fast forward to 2025, does it stand up? Well I can't speak for Gen Z (but if you can, please feel free to comment), but for anyone over 40? I say crack open a cold one (or roll a fat one) sit back and judge for yourself...
