Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has announced plans to reduce the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, to make it more affordable for everyday Nigerians. During a recent tour of the Dangote Refinery, Dangote expressed concern over the rising cost of cooking gas, which has forced many citizens to resort to firewood for cooking. He revealed that the refinery is now producing up to 22,000 tonnes of LPG daily and is scaling up efforts to directly supply the Nigerian market.
However, his proposal has faced resistance from operators in the gas sector, with accusations that Dangote is attempting to monopolise the LPG market. Dealers warn that such a move could stifle competition and negatively impact smaller players in the industry.
