This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new KIA EV9 GT and KIA EV6 electric utilities. The KIA EV9, Kia’s 3-row SUV has been a big hit for the brand and now they are upping the sportiness with the GT model, it has up to 501 horsepower and a target 0-60- mph time of 4.3 seconds.
Helping to bring the GT to a quick stop are upgraded brakes and exclusive GT-badged front calipers. There is a driver selectable electronically controlled suspension and Kia has added a virtual gear shift which provides noticeable shifts as the vehicle accelerates and can reduce acceleration when the rev limit is reached. The driver can use the paddle shifters to manually shift through the gears for extra engagement. In cabin electric active sound design works with VSG to replicate the sounds of the gear shifts as you accelerate.
The KIA EV6 on the other hand, gets some tweaks with more tech, an updated design and increased battery capacity. A 63 kWh battery is now standard along with an available 84 kWh battery with a targeted range of up to 513 km/319 miles for RWD.
The KIA EV6 rear motor setup makes 225 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The more powerful AWD model has 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque and the EV6 GT 601 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque. With standard GT mode activated you get even more power, 641 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque which is up from the previous GT model. The EV6 GT also gets the new virtual gear shift feature and engine sound effects.
Starting in the first half of 2025, all EV9s will come standard with the North American Charging Standard charge port opening you up to many more charging options on the road. The EV6 is also compatible.
