Ring modulation is a powerful form of synthesis, but the strangeness of it is due to the fact that the sidebands created aren’t necessarily harmonically related to the original frequency, which is typically what we refer to as sounding “musical”.
So while the sidebands might sound good with one note, it will sound dissonant with another, which is one of the reasons it can be difficult to use in a musical context. This is the exact problem we’re addressing today with a simple method to get it working in your music!
