By the mid 90s, house music had grown up and developed in many disparate directions. Most deep house producers focused on upping production values, putting out more carefully crafted and emotive tracks with high levels of musicality, more often than not with a sprinkling of jazz chords on top. Though the top priority remained laying down a rock solid, can't-stop-won't-stop 4/4 groove. The whole style is probably best summed up by the title of one of Kerri Chandler's mix CDs of the era: A Basement, A Red Light And A Feeling.
As I just built myself a new piece of furniture with enough space for both my CDJs and turntables, I decided to celebrate by making this inaugural recording a vinyl-only mix. I'm not much of a vinyl collector, most of what I have was bought in the mid to late 90s out of sheer necessity. A lot of this music did not come out on CD, and MP3s were not yet a thing. At the time, I was massively into house, so that makes up a sizeable chunk of my collection.
