
Symposium on race, sports and their effect on American culture and civil rights, held on May 11, 2011 at Woodruff Library on the Emory University campus. A new collecting focus for MARBL, on the papers of African American athletes, also was introduced. Panelists included Mike Glenn, former NBA player; Gerald Early, director of the Center for the Humanities at Washington University in St. Louis; and Earl Lewis, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Emory and African American studies professor. Pellom McDaniels III, former Atlanta Falcons player and consultant curator of MARBL's African American Collections, was the moderator.
