Top ongoing mega projects in Tanzania
Currently, Tanzania leads in terms of both the value of projects and the number of projects that have broken ground by June 2020. President Samia Suluhu’s government is implementing the National Five-Year Development Plan 2016 to 2020, which aims at nurturing industrialization for economic transformation and human development. In the race for economic competitiveness aimed at attracting investment and promoting development, East African countries are engaged in a cut-throat competition to construct and upgrade infrastructure mega-projects. The following are the top ongoing mega projects in Tanzania. Eastern African countries have increased investment in infrastructure projects in the past five years, with Tanzania leading in terms of the value and number of projects that broke ground by June last year. The Sixth-Phase Government has continued to push through mega development projects which are being implemented across the country. After President Samia Suluhu Hassan concluded a successful project-launching tour in the Mwanza Region earlier this week, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa picked up the baton yesterday by inspecting the ongoing Tanzanite Bridge project in Dar es Salaam. The 1.03 kilo meters long bridge with a 20.5 metre width is being constructed across the Indian Ocean. The ultra-modern bridge aims at easing traffic jams on Ali Hassan Mwinyi Road, which accommodates many vehicles that flow to and from the City Centre. The implementation of the project will also see the upgrading of roads totalling 5.2 kilometres to connect the two sides of the bridge.
