🗣️ Q&A with Jake Mehew 🗣️

⏳ How long have you been collecting and mixing for?
My obsession with collecting and mixing music began in the 90's with my brother's FM receiver and tape machine. I made Michael Jackson compilations and ripped tracks from the radio. I started collecting vinyl in 2012, and now have a silly amount in my music studio for mixing, mastering, and inspiration. I’m more of a selector than a DJ.

💡 What sparked your interest in digging/collecting?
My friend Thomas Pearson introduced me to digging. We bonded over music, raiding charity shops and car boots. As a neurodivergent, music has been an intense obsession for me, and I aim to learn as much as I can about it.

🔍 Where do you find your music?
I explore artist catalogues, festival line-ups, Instagram, and YouTube. Bandcamp is great for new artists. I love specialist record stores, and Tribe Records is now one of my favorites. I also bring back LPs from Berlin, attaching stories and memories to the records I buy.

🎶 Any label/artist/collective recommendations for someone to start digging?
I've been digging everything from Hypnus Records; everything they touch is golden.

🌟 Is there anyone that you take inspiration from? If so, who and why?
DJ NikNak, Kessie, and Dr Michelle - they curate amazing works and are talented, kind, and humble—key figures in the ambient and electronica scene.
