Is Ghana the Richest Country in West Africa?
Africa is a magnificent continent with plenty of natural resources, raw materials, precious metals, and lush land. Agriculture, natural resources, and trade are the main economic drivers. It was the fastest-growing continent in 2013 and continues to be a source of resources, ideas, and innovation. With further expansion and improvement, the African economy is expected to reach a GDP of $29 trillion by 2050, making it a prominent player in the global economy. Most of the countries on this continent, according to the World Bank, will achieve “middle income” status within the next decade, with a GDP per capita of at least $1,000. Ghana is a multi-ethnic country with a diversified population, language, and religious groupings; while the Akan ethnic group is the largest, they only make up a minority. The majority of Ghanaians (71.3%) are Christians, with about a fifth being Muslim and a tenth professing traditional faiths or claiming no religion. Ghana is a unitary constitutional democracy with a president who serves as both president and prime minister. It has had one of the most free and stable administrations on the continent since 1993, and it performs well in terms of healthcare, economic growth, and human development. As a result of its membership in the Non-Aligned Movement, the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Group of 24 (G24), and the Commonwealth of Nations, Ghana has great influence in West Africa and is deeply involved in international politics.
