Full Documentary:
After floor spinning, the robot, and other Hip Hop dances premiered on Soul Train in 1971, Rufus Thomas recorded a song called Break Down. The Soul Train Dancers performed the "Break" dances with Rufus Thomas in 1972, and the film Wattstax was released in 1973. New York was now given a name for dancing to the breaks. Kool Herc picked up on the concept and began extending the breaks. Bronx street gangs learned to break dance to funk records by studying the kids in L.A. on their television sets, then trying their L.A. dances at Kool Herc's parties.
