📍 Recorded live at The Vinyl Whistle, Leeds.
🗣️ Q&A with Billy Jack 🗣️
⏳ How long have you been collecting and mixing for?
I started around 8 years ago. My brother had been collecting for a while, so it felt natural to start when I moved to Leeds.
💡 What sparked your interest in digging/collecting?
Dancing in clubs and seeing DJs like Blawan, Moodymann, and the Hessle crew. I was going to Slop even before moving to Leeds, and it was a huge inspiration for me. I started with industrial techno but have since expanded into a more varied collection, playing anything that carries the right energy.
🔍 Where do you find your music?
Notting Hill Gate Music Exchange is one of the best spots for records. I also find new releases on Bandcamp.
🎶 Any label/artist/collective recommendations for someone to start digging?
Athens Of The North
2000 Black
Sylvester
Leroy Burgess
Kush Jones
SHE Spells Doom
J Dilla
INVT
Konono No.1
🌟 Is there anyone that you take inspiration from? If so, who and why?
I’m inspired by people who come together for music, especially parties for marginalized people like Sable, Love Muscle, and Rat Party. DIY spaces like Gut Level & Cosmic Slop really celebrate music and bring community spirit, not just with club nights, but with all kinds of creative activities.
