Whenever I speak out against the harms of Western Eurocentric mainstream therapy many people think I'm saying I'm against therapy. Let me be clear: I am NOT against therapy. It's origins are Indigenous.
I believe in therapy as an option for those who seek it. Especially because there is so much suffering. While I don't believe therapy has all the answers, it can mitigate harm. What I DON'T believe in is COLONIAL therapy. This means I don't believe in therapy that solely diagnoses instead of seeing colonization as the root of unwellness.I don't believe in a therapy that individualizes healing.
I don't believe in therapy that solely defines your wellness on an individual level. What about the wellness of your family? your community? our culture? Of our Earth, the land? This impacts our wellness TOO. I don't believe in therapy that is disconnected from the land, our Earth Mother, and all of Creation.
When therapy is without these elements, it is COLONIAL.
This is the system but people uphold it. I'm calling in the therapists and healing practitioners that are ready for co-creating a new paradigm in which we are ALL well.
This is what A New Paradigm of Care: Decolonizing our Practice is all about. We begin in July & are enrolling now. Limited spaces. By application & invite only.
