This 4T series of transmissions was often paired to GM's infamous 3800 engine. Its durability was questionable, often leading to alot of these cars written off when failed. The failed transmission in this video was from a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix with only 178,000km on it.
This transmission is a bit old school in design, with a longitudinal tunnel (similar to a RWD setup), mounted sideways behind the engine. An axle runs through the center to power the driver side wheel. Drums and bands are used in conventional fashion, as opposed to purely clutches. The valve body sites on the side of the transmission.
The clutches that were present were worn and burnt, and the transmission body was leaky, indicating it may have run low on fluid and thus why this transmission may have failed.
