Ever since the day they originally hooked up in 99, Nic Conef and Mark Wadsworth have done an excellent job in bridging the gap between clubby house grooves and live instrumentation. This collection marries some of their deeper laidback moments with up tempo bass heavy tracks. Their love of live instruments and real melody gives this album an abundance of character, while the prevalence of lush soundscapes and beautIful synths add deepness. 'Moodswing' opens things with gorge plonky keys, delicate percussion, eastern flute and a decidedly blue sax. While 'Silence' carries on the succulent deep vibe, relying on divine vocals, sexy brass melody and earthy bass for a soulful ride. 'The Lowdown' slurps along with head nodding b-boy influenced percussion, 70's funk brass lunges and cool guitars. While 'Catch Yourself' also travels back in time as electro type synth work takes centre stage as drunken keys stagger over cutting strings and a throbbing grooved bass. Mettle Music have succeeded in producing a full album release, at home on the dance-floor, coffee table or even in the bedroom. - Jon Freer - XLR8R Magazine
