Former Iron Maiden singer Paul Di'Anno has sadly died at 66 years of age.

Born Paul Andrews, Paul Di'Anno was the original vocalist for Iron Maiden and played a key role in their early success between 1978 and 1981. He performed on the band’s first two albums, Iron Maiden and Killers, which helped solidify the group as an essential part of the new wave of British heavy metal.

Di'Anno departed from Iron Maiden in 1981 and was replaced by Bruce Dickinson. Reflecting on his time with the band, Di'Anno later acknowledged that his lifestyle had taken a toll, admitting that he had been partying "non-stop, 24 hours a day" and that the consequences of this behaviour "wasn’t fair to the band, the fans, or to myself, external."

In response to his passing, Iron Maiden's current members expressed their condolences, stating they were "all deeply saddened" by the news of his death.
