ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
The French jazz scene, untethered to academic constraints, is currently in a process of regeneration through contact with electronic and urban influences. Laurent Bardainne is one of the leading figures of this new generation, alongside Thomas de Pourquery. Bardainne made a name for himself with the late lamented French group Poni Hoax, and later through various other groups including Limousine. But his productivity isn’t limited to his own albums – the open-minded musician has also lent his talents as a saxophonist to various Afrobeat, rap and electro artists.
In this performance recorded in spring 2024 at Le Trianon concert hall in Paris, Laurent Bardainne attests to this broad musical spectrum. Produced by Heavenly Sweetness, the label founded by the tireless Franck Descollonges, the saxophonist stands out on the Parisian stage for his highly melodic compositions. Backed by a tight-knit band, including the creative Sylvain Daniel (listen to his recent funky project Slydee), Bardainne delivers some undeniably powerful tracks. His artistic approach and the creative space he has carved out are ideal for welcoming a variety of guests. Among them are the wide-ranging Jeanne Added who performs “Meilleur,” and Pupajim, from the Breton reggae-dub collective Stand High Patrol, who revisits the track “Globules Rouges.” A must watch!
