A sessant’anni dal suo debutto professionale, Herbie Hancock rimane dove è sempre stato: in prima linea nella cultura, nella tecnologia e nella musica. Leggendario pianista, compositore, icona del jazz mondiale, Hancock ha fatto parte di ogni movimento musicale significativo dagli anni ’60 in poi, a cominciare dall’epico quintetto di Miles Davis. Se il suo contributo è stato determinante per l’ibridazione del jazz elettrico con il funk e il rock, il suo approccio creativo continua a travolgere le distinzioni di genere e a influenzare moltissima musica di oggi, tecno, dance e hip-hop compresi. Ha vinto un Oscar per la colonna sonora di Round Midnight e 14 Grammy Award, tra cui quello alla carriera. Presiede la cattedra di Creative Jazz della Los Angeles Philharmonic e il Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. E’ stato nominato Goodwill Ambassador dell’Unesco e ha ricevuto la massima Onorificenza del Kennedy Center.

Sixty years after his professional debut, Herbie Hancock remains where he has always been, at the forefront of culture, technology and music.
A legendary pianist and composer, a worldwide icon of jazz, Hancock has taken part to every significant musical movement since the 60s, starting with Miles Davis’s quintet. His contribution was pivotal in hybridizing electric jazz with funk and rock, and many contemporary sounds, from street music to the one we call “highbrow”, have been influenced by his brilliant creations. After winning an Oscar and 14 Grammys, including a lifetime achievement award, Hancock now presides over the Jazz section of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Thelonious Monk Institute, as well as being a UNESCO goodwill Ambassador and a recipient of the Kennedy Center’s highest Honor.
