This song gives practical application to a foundational Biblical truth - "love your neighbor as yourself". However, the last part "and he will love you too" is an added thought that is not in the Biblical text. Often our gestures of love and kindness are reciprocal, but not always. :)

Lyrics
Love thy neighbor as thyself
Do unto him as you'd have him do to you
Give him things that you can do without to help him live
Love thy neighbor as thyself and he will love you too.
Now this old world could be a lonesome place without a friend
We need each other every day, together we can win
There's a little good in every man, don’t count and see his faults
And a precious deed that you might do may change his inward thoughts.
Well, I once knew a couple of fellers near my old homestead
And I just wish that all the world could live the way they did
They'd swap off work and lend each other money, mule and plow
And I've seen'm many a time dividing milk from one old cow
We need old timey neighborhoods, with hearts that's free of greed
God make us good old fashioned folks who'll be a friend indeed
If you want a friend, then be a friend, do not let charity slack
Do your deeds without a price, someone will pay you back.
