A Creole hub located at the mouth of the Mississippi River, New Orleans is renowned for its myriad rhythms and music, especially jazz. Revealing the richness of a state (of mind) like Louisiana, this live selection features Kevin Stylez and the Matt Dillon Band. Representing the great American soul tradition, the former delivers a heady groove, while the latter reinvents the vibraphone alongside elements of rock and improvisation. Punctuated by words from locals, this episode also highlights certain distinctive regional identities such as the Mardi Gras Indians.

Following in the footsteps of historic groups such as the Wild Tchoupitoulas and the late Dr. John, Cha Wa embodies the resilience of the African-American population; a community that over the centuries found refuge among the surrounding Amerindian tribes in order to escape the slave system. Nurtured on funk, the musical repertoire of the NOLA combo (one of New Orleans' many nicknames) is particularly masterful here. The outfits are meticulously crafted with pearls and feathers while avoiding any caricatural approach, as evidenced by the performance of the singer – a musician gifted with an undeniable aura.
