This animation illustrates the results of a high-fidelity multiphase CFD simulation performed by Dynaflow as part of a broader investigation into transient forces and vibrations in a PSV discharge system.
The model includes a pipe section, a pressure safety valve (PSV), and downstream piping. The fluid domain initially contains alternating segments of methane gas and water, with the air (methane) shown in blue and the water in white.
During the simulated PSV activation, the mixture flows through the valve and into the discharge piping. The animation visualizes the complex gas–liquid interaction in high detail, capturing critical flow behaviors such as:
 Phase separation and interface dynamics
 Local accelerations and turbulent mixing zones
 Formation and propagation of liquid slugs
 Influence of geometry (e.g., bends) on flow patterns
These insights are essential for understanding the transient hydraulic forces generated during discharge events. Such forces can lead to significant dynamic loads and vibrations in the piping system, making their analysis crucial for design and safety assessments.
