Global National: Nov. 28, 2021 | Flood-weary BC hit by 2nd atmospheric river

The second in a series of atmospheric rivers has hit areas of British Columbia, while Abbotsford is bracing for more flooding after the Nooksack River in Washington state began to overflow on Sunday. Heather Yourex-West has more on the latest developments. Preliminary data on the Omicron COVID-19 variant shows an increased potential for transmissibility, a reduction in vaccine effectiveness and increased reinfection. As Sarah Komadina reports, hospitalization rates will be key in understanding whether this new variant poses a problem. Meanwhile, the South African government is calling for calm as more countries impose travel limits on foreign nationals from parts of Africa due to the Omicron variant. As Mike Le Couteur reports, the variant is showing up in several countries and as far away as Australia. Quebec City police say they are investigating a violent arrest of Black teenagers after videos surfaced online on Saturday night. The footage shows officers dragging, pinning down and beating the teens in the snow. Raquel Fletcher reports. An emergency meeting was held in Europe to address migrant smuggling following the tragic drowning of two dozen migrants in the English Channel last week. Jennifer Johnson has details, including why Britain was left out of the talks. There is more evidence that COVID-19 could harm health in other ways, after two studies found that some patients who contracted the virus developed diabetes. As Jamie Mauracher explains, there are several theories as to why the virus may trigger the disease. And, unless you start the Christmas tree hunt early this season, securing that perfect slice of holiday tradition may be a challenge. Canada is facing a country-wide shortage, partially due to extreme weather. Kristen Robinson reports.
