This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new Lexus RX. Here are the first images of the 2023 Lexus RX, it is expected to go on sale at the end of 2022. The first RX came out more than 20 years ago with Lexus being the first luxury brand to offer a hybrid in this segment. The new model has four redesigned powertrains, three electrified and two new trims… Ultra Luxury and F Sport Performance with DIRECT4 AWD technology. The RX features a new GA-K platform that offers a low centre of gravity and optimal weight distribution. This platform is up to 190 pounds lighter than the outgoing model, reducing weight plus increasing rigidly, while improving ride comfort and quietness. The new RX has a 2.4 inch longer wheelbase with a 2.4” shorter rear overhang keeping the overall length of the vehicle the same as the outgoing model. The rear section of the platform features an all new multi-link suspension attached to a rigid high torsion rear body frame that Lexus claims facilitates more consistent suspension input and travel during acceleration, deceleration and cornering. The new platform also increases rear passenger legroom and gives you extra cargo space with a lower load-in height. There are big changes to the powertrains, out is the V6, the RX 350 AWD is now powered by a 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 275 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD. The RX 350h has a 2.5L 4-cylinder hybrid system matched to a CVT, 246 horsepower and 233 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD. This sounds like a modified version of the Lexus NX hybrid system. Fuel economy for this model is 7.1L/100km combined, 33 MPG. Then there is a new RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid, details will be shared at a later time for this model. Finally there is a new RX 500h F-Sport Performance which introduces a new hybrid electric system with a front unit that integrates a high torque 2.4L turbo engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It gets 367 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. Updates to the rear electric motor promise to improve acceleration and provide a more dynamic drive. It comes standard with DIRECT4 AWD. A first for the RX lineup, the RX 500h Sport Performance grades go beyond the current generation F Sport package for a sportier, more performance driven look and feel. It features six-piston brake calipers, a mesh grille, a unique front bumper and 21” aluminum wheels. The interior includes, a perforated leather trimmed steering wheel, aluminum interior trims and pedals. The new RX builds on the foundation of the iconic Lexus spindle design and evolves into a new cohesive spindle body design. It offers a sleek and dynamic design with integrated headlights, a low stance, 19” wheels with a dark grey finish. For those who want a bolder look, 21” wheels are available. From the back, the RX inherits the signature L-shaped light bar with lenses that wrap around to the sides of the body to emphasize a wider silhouette. The 2023 RX will be offered in 7 grades, Premium, Luxury, Ultra-Luxury, Executive, F Sport 1, F Sport 2 and 3 plus 10 exterior colour options. Inside the cabin, the RX has a more driver focused cock-pit with the centre console angled towards the driver. The e-latch system which is also in the new Lexus NX allows you to open the door with a touch of a button. The available multi-colour illumination accents, tasteful door trim options and an available panoramic glassroof creates an open and luxurious space. Driver controls, like the available steering wheel switches, head-up display, available navigation and audio have been designed in a functional, concise layout to reduce driver distraction. The RX has an available 14” touchscreen. No details on the base screen size. So there are the first images and details on the all-new Lexus RX. The RX is the best seller for Lexus so this is very important, having 4 powertrain options will certainly keep this model top of mind.
