I don't get much time these days to work on non-Rakuen music, but this past year, I had the pleasure of creating a new original song ("Better Days") for my friend Alice. The song appears in the ending credits of their game "A Quiver of Crows" which is a beautiful (and very challenging) shooter where you play as a crow in a mysterious world. The song is about overcoming dark times in your life and growing from it... it's about both Alice's life over the past several years, and also parallels the crow's journey throughout the game.
I started writing a while back, during a time when Alice was going through a lot of really difficult things in her life. She had to move back home to take care of her mother (who got Guillain-Barré Syndrome and became paralyzed). She was basically trying to work on the game from home, while taking care of her mother (cooking meals, taking care of the house, doing physical therapy/nurse work, etc.), researching ways to help her mom walk again, and talking with insurance companies on a near daily basis to figure out the high medical costs after her mom was hospitalized for over a month. There's more, but basically it was crazy... she had so much on her shoulders, and yet she was able to work through it all.
Anyways... I'm really happy with how this song turned out, and I hope that you guys enjoy it, and that it can bring some sense of relaxation or peace to you if you're also going through difficult times. And if you get the chance, please take a moment to check out their game on Steam, it'll be coming out on October 19th (very soon) ^__^

Lyrics:
(verse 1)
I know I've seen better days, somewhere down the road
And everyday I've been asking that, someone lift this load
I dream I could grow some wings, to fly away from here
But then who'd take care of everything, if I'm not there to steer?
(chorus)
So I will find it, and I will climb it
But I see now I'm not going home
And will it change me? I've fallen on my knees
When the night's falling all I can say, is
I've seen better days.
(verse 2)
Lately I can't fall asleep, I toss and turn at night
Enemies come pouring in, when I turn out the lights
Mom got sick some time ago, and I got bills to pay
Busted cars and battle scars, but I can't run away
(chorus)
So I will find it, and I have climbed it
But I see now I'm not going home
And will it change me, the life I wanted to lead?
When the night's falling all I can say, is
I've seen better days.
(bridge)
I know I've seen better days, somewhere down the road
And everyday I've been asking that, someone lift this load
(chorus 3)
So I will find it, and I will climb it
But I see now I'm not going home
And will it change me, I've fallen down on my knees
When the night's falling all I can say, is
I've seen better days.
