Since 2015 at the source of the Nile, the city of Jinja in Uganda hosts the Nyege Nyege festival, the largest alternative music gathering in Africa. In September 2022, for its seventh edition, the organizers chose a new location, five times larger than the previous one. It hosted 300 artists and 12,000 festival-goers from all around the world.
