Original Video by Karra:
Basically, anyone can upload a random song to any artist’s profile and have it up there live. And I don’t mean just small artists, you can pay Distrokid about $30 and tell them to upload any song to any profile. You can even go as far as to upload your song to Ed Sheeran’s profile.
Granted, Ed is a big artist, and his team will take it down before it even goes live and will press charges against you, but what about artists who don’t have the support from major record labels?
To be honest? We are left to fend for ourselves.
But I think I have a couple of solutions to this problem. There are also several amazing ideas in the comment section of KARRA’s video. So the goal of this video is to spread the message further. And before I lay some of the solutions down for you, you have to understand that without a massive wave of people voicing their frustration, nothing will change.
My name is Mike Hvll. I’m an independent artist who has released songs through both distribution companies, such as TuneCore and DistroKid, as well as indie record labels. I usually create light-hearted content, but sometimes we need to have a serious conversation.
