In the impact, Lieutenant Colonel Bhanu Pratap Singh Mankotia and Lance‑Dafadar Daljeet Singh tragically lost their lives. Both were part of the Army moving from Durbuk to Chongtash on a routine training or patrol mission through the Galwan region.
Three other officers—Major Mayank Shubham, Major Amit Dixit, and Captain Gaurav—were injured in the same incident and were promptly airlifted to the Army hospital in Leh for medical attention. They are receiving care and are reported to be stable.
The area is known for its dangerous terrain and sudden landslides, making such operations inherently risky. Rescue and recovery teams quickly reached the scene, and senior military officials expressed deep sorrow at the loss. Condolences were conveyed to the bereaved families, and the entire Army unit paid tribute to the fallen soldiers.
This incident underscores the challenges Indian Army personnel face even during non‑combat operations in difficult environments, showing both the bravery and vulnerability involved in serving in such regions.
