The town's story implies that it's haunted by the spirit of a Marowak, a Pokémon that was murdered by Team Rocket while searching for its orphaned Cubone. Players first encounter the idea of Pokémon dying in Lavender Town, which is one of the few towns in the Kanto region without a gym."
