Why not capture the gas coming off manure lagoons?! A dairy farm that that captures methane from manure and converts it into power that is directly piped into the the city's natural gas pipeline! As long as the cows are pooping, the farm is able to produce renewable energy! The process converts methane to energy, which the farm sells. With a methane digester, natural gas coming off the manure ponds is no longer just emitted into the air.
How it works:
Water is used to flush cow manure from barns. It then goes through a system that essentially operates like a screen, separating the liquids from the solids. The liquid goes into lagoons. The manure lagoons are covered with a tarp.The manure lagoons naturally boil methane. The tarp traps gases from the lagoon and the methane goes into a pipe, which is able to continuously generate electricity. The water and fertilizer byproducts of the manure go back onto feed crops, and the grain and hay the cattle eat then results in manure, which produces energy, he said. #FarmingIsCool #SaveACowPowerTheWorld
