My wife and I spent time travelling around rural Scotland. From the lush, green (and often wet) Lowlands to the crisp, fresh (and often foggy) Highlands. Everywhere was incredible, and at times overwhelmingly beautiful. How many times did I nearly crash the car in awe at what I was seeing out the window? Officially, not many, off the record, nearly rolled the car 14 times.

Whereas England's elite class are obsessed with turning as many things into concrete slabs as possible (Something that J.R.R. Tolkien thought was bad enough 90 years ago to start weaving it deeply into the themes of 'The Lord Of The Rings')...Scotland feels like it still has pride in it's beautiful surroundings. Although I'm told by many that the destructive ghost of the industrial revolution still whispers at the door every night, hoping to come in.
I was grateful we got to explore the land of my forefathers, and visit the region from which my surname is given.

Anyway, this trip was much needed. We felt pure. We felt cleansed, washed clean of sterile convenience, anti-human perfection and a soul-crushing, omnipresent illustration style that I now know to be called 'Corporate Memphis'.

It all started with my £4 car boot sale guitar and my pre-owned Zoom recorder from CEX.
