The recording session for Elvis’s first Sun single is often cited as the dawn of rockabilly.
Elvis started to sing Arthur Crudup’s blues song That’s All Right, to a county and western rhythm. Guitarist Scotty Moore and upright bassist Bill Black picked it up and rockabilly was born.
DJ Dewy Phillips is accredited with coining the term on air when he exclaimed, “they’re rocking country music, they’re rockabillys!”
