America is a British-American rock band formed in London in 1970 by Dewey Bunnell, who was born in England but is American, along with Americans Gerry Beckley and Dan Peek. The three met as sons of U.S. Air Force personnel stationed in London, where they started performing live. Gaining significant popularity in the 1970s, they became known for their close vocal harmonies and light acoustic folk-rock sound.
From the time Dan Peek left the band in 1977 until his death in 2011, there was much speculation about whether he would or could rejoin the group. On Peek's 1978 solo debut album, Beckley and Bunnell provided backup vocals, and Peek even joined the band onstage to perform a few songs during a concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles in 1983.

Dan Peek left the group in 1977, achieved success as a solo artist in the emerging Christian pop music genre, and passed away in 2011.

"You Can Do Magic" is a song by singer-songwriter Russ Ballard that was recorded as a 1982 single by folk rock duo America. While the two band members Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell only participated on the vocal track in the studio, Ballard played all the instruments, except for the drums recorded by longtime America touring drummer Willie Leacox.
