Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT)
Pregnancy is a beautiful time in a woman’s life
Parents wish for a healthier and happier life for their little one
To ensure the baby’s good health prenatal screening can be a blessing for parents to be!

What is Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT)?
It determines the risk for the fetus being born with certain chromosomal abnormalities.
Chromosomal abnormalities such as,
Down’s syndrome (Trisomy 21)
Edwards syndrome (Trisomy 18)
Patau’s syndrome (Trisomy 13)

How is NIPT done?
NIPT is a simple blood test.
NIPT involves only a quick blood draw with a needle and syringe, it is safe for you and your baby.
Doctor pairs your NIPT results with the results of your first-trimester ultrasound or nuchal translucency screening.
It is to determine whether further testing is needed.

Risk Associated with NIPT
Noninvasive testing: Provides high detection rates, Low false Positive results, No risk to mother and baby

When is the NIPT test done?
NIPT can be done any time after the 10th week of pregnancy.

What is next-generation sequencing (NGS)?
NGS is the most published method for performing NIPT
It provides higher detection rates and significantly fewer false positives than traditional screening methods.
It enables rapid sequencing of the base pairs in DNA or RNA samples.

NGS helps with
Gene expression profiling
Chromosome counting
Detection of epigenetic changes
Molecular analysis

Who should get NIPT?
It is an available screening option for all pregnant women regardless of age or risk/
NIPT must be done for
Mom to be who are 30 or older
Previously had a child with a genetic disorder
Have a family history of these conditions
IVF pregnancy
If maternal serum screening report is positive
