Have you ever wondered why these are called Manila Papers? And believe it or not, it's not just in the Philippines! We call these Manila papers because it was originally made from the Manila hemp plant, also known as Abaca, native to the Philippines. The term "Manila" refers to the capital city of the Philippines, which historically served as a major center for production and export. And Manila Paper is not only used in the Philippines, in fact, many other countries know it better as Manila envelopes, originally made from Manila paper. Its durability and versatility have made it a must-have for various institutions. While modern versions may not always be from hemp fibers, this paper is still very useful today.
