This is a Motormouth couple car review of the updates 2023 Toyota Corolla sedan and hatch, plus more hybrid models and AWD. The Toyota Corolla gets four new hybrid models for 2023!

The Corolla rolls into 2023 a changed car and consumers will take notice with available AWD, a more powerful hybrid system, refreshed front and rear styling, Toyota’s new infotainment system with a standard 8” touchscreen and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. The Corolla XSE model gets a redesigned 7” multi-information display, all other trims an updated 4.2” display and standard wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto and dual Bluetooth phone connectivity along with an available wireless charger.

The gas model too, the LE the most popular grade now receives the 169 horsepower 2L 4-cylinder engine used in all S-line trims replacing the 139 horsepower 1.8L engine. It is also more efficient improving on the previous models ratings of 7.6L/100 km city, 5.9L on the highway and 6.8L combined.

In all 2023 Corolla gas models, Toyota claims the dynamic shift CVT gives a distinct performance feel thanks to a gearset used as a first gear for start off acceleration. Additionally SE and XSE grades feature paddle shifters.

The new Corolla Hybrid also offers enhanced brake control, while the SE an XSE AWD grades inherit the firmer-feel electronic power steering from the Corolla Apex Edition performance model.

The 2023 Corolla Hybrid models gain more power, more traction with electronic on-demand AWD as used in other Toyota hybrids. There are more model choices, LE FWD, LE AWD, sporty SE AWD grades and premium focused XSE AWD grade.

All 2023 Corolla Hybrid models gain a more powerful Toyota Hybrid system. As before the system pairs a 1.8L four cylinder as in the current model but with a re-engineered drive motor and lithium-ion battery.

The Corolla gets a freshened exterior look for 2023 with a redesigned front grille with chrome finished accents, revised LED headlights, an update rear bumper with chrome accents and available 18” gloss graphite wheels on the hatchback.

The interior used high gloss materials with matte elements, silver accents and available contrast stitching. Seating materials included, cloth or in higher grades SofTex. Colour choices include, black or black with red accents, light grey with dark grey highlights or cream.

The Corolla gets upgraded safety tech evolving to version 3.0. In addition, the Corolla is available with parking assist with parking support braking and adaptive front lighting.
