INTRODUCTION:

🇬🇧 Across the seemingly disparate tiles of sound and style that make up the mosaic of UK rap music, there is something that all sections are agreeing on right now. 2016 is the year of the lyricist. Whether it’s due to the scene maturing or because lyrics that reflect realities are gaining currency is academic and probably irrelevant. The important thing is the windfall of young artists carrying this torch and filling our listening holes with some powerful music. Enter Chillman, the Eritrean born 21 year old tipped for big things.

Arriving in the UK at 13 and settling in Hereford, Chilly began spitting in his late teens after being introduced to the art by his late friend, Krazy Paul. Rolling with his boys and forming the Verbal Highz crew led to the semblance of something serious as they hit the festival circuit and started self releasing material online. Coming to scene veteran Verb T’s attention at a show, he was quickly taken under the man’s wing and is among the first few signings to his freshly launched label In The Balance Records. 🇬🇧
