It's easy to forget about UX research in the modern tech environment. After all, researchers don't code or do much frontend design. Product managers already get organizational alignment and set priorities. And yet, companies that don't leverage user research have a needlessly high fail rate. Think of Google+, Twitter's Vine or Facebook's ongoing struggle to hit product-market-fit with Oculus. All failed to clearly identify the right target user segment or solve genuine and pressing user needs. This is exactly what UX researchers specialize in. Granted, robust, research-led, and genuinely user-first product strategy is NOT always the difference between success and failure, but it does push the odds more in the developer's favor. Put another way, it helps teams make better bets. Silicon valley is all about making calculated bets. AND, the benefits of UX research are becoming ever-more amplified with the rise of product-led growth (PLG). PLG emphasizes returning early value to the consumer in place of a drawn-out sales and marketing processes, and before asking for any kind of payment (e.g. Freemium). Come to discuss how UX research can help 10x product impact.
