This week, we focus on preparing for the colder months ahead. We start by finishing the firewood stacking in front of the house. Although it’s mid-November, a warm southern breeze gives us the perfect opportunity to wrap up outdoor tasks before winter fully sets in. With the wood cleared and neatly stacked for future use, we feel ready for the chillier days ahead. We also collect small wood pieces for kindling and save sawdust to use as cat litter for Lucie—a practical and satisfying task.Philippe extends the ditch near the parking area, ensuring rainwater flows freely and eliminating the need for the pump. He drains the dumper from earlier rain showers and clears the flower patch of dried sunflowers and wildflowers, allowing their seeds to scatter for a fresh bloom next year. These flowers serve their purpose in drawing pollutants from the soil, so it’s time for them to go.
We wrap up the week with a hearty pancake breakfast and finish by winterizing the robot mowers, tackling the final tasks needed to prepare for the colder months. Each small effort we make now helps ensure a smooth transition into winter.
