mgk said, "I was in Travis [Kelce]'s suite, and at the beginning of it [Super Bowl LIX], Taylor was like, 'Hell yeah, we're gonna come watch you perform,' like, 'It's gonna be crazy tonight.' Internally, I was stoked. I was like, 'Oh, what a legendary night this is gonna be.' By the third quarter, I was looking at that score, I went up to Taylor, I was like, 'Y'all aren't coming tonight, huh?' She was like, 'I don't think so. I'll see if I can get him to get out, but I don't think'... cause me and Travis, that's my dawg. He's from Cleveland. He's from right next to where I'm from."
During an interview with ESPN, mgk talked about how the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl after party inspired his song "dont wait run fast."
"Your song, 'dont wait run fast,' is ESPN college football's new anthem," the interviewer said.
"It came from a real place of the day after we performed for the Kansas City Chiefs after party at the Super Bowl, which was a lost party," mgk said. "I went in the studio, and I was like, 'We need one of those guitar riffs that can bring life to something that there is no life in anymore. I made the song kind of being like, 'We need something to pump people up,' and so I made it after a football event. So it's pretty ironic that it got chosen to be the soundtrack for a football event."
