Scanno è un comune italiano situato in provincia dell'Aquila, in Abruzzo, in parte compreso entro I confini del parco nazionale d'Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise. La città ha origine antiche e sembra fosse abitata già in epoca romana ma è tra ottocento e Novecento che questa località conquista con il suo fascino fotografi e artisti sia italiani che stranieri. Per questo Scanno è conosciuta come "la città dei fotografi" perché i suoi soggetti di numerosi scatti realizzati da autori come Henri Cartier - Bresson , Mario Giacomelli, Renzo Tortelli. Una delle foto scattate a Scanno da Mario Giacomelli, nota come il bambino di Scanno, è entrata a far parte della collezione di opere fotografiche del Museum of Modern Art di New York. SCANNO is a town and district in the province of L'Aquila, in the Abruzzo region of Central Italy. It is one of I Borgi più belli d'Italia ( The most beautiful villages of Italy). Nestled just over 1000 meters above sea level among the Marsicani Mountains in the Abruzzo National Park, the origin of the town's name is commonly traced back to Latin ( Scamnum, "stool") because the hill on which the historic centre was built resembles a bench.
One of the most interesting characteristics of Scanno concerns its relationship with the art of photography. This beautiful village in Abruzzo, in fact, over the years has earned the nickname of " the city of photographers" thanks to the success achieved by some historical photographs talento in this evocative landscape and cultural setting.
