Here is what Modulus Amplification say about the Gryphin Talon 50
The Gryphin Talon 50 all-valve amp is designed to deliver classic British vintage tones in the low gain mode and, with the gain boost engaged higher gain 80’s type overdrive. With hand-wired construction using rugged turret boards and chassis-mounted valve sockets and pots, the amp is built to last and stand up to the rigours of regular gigging.
This amp is designed to be a versatile professional recording amp with enough power for most gigging situations. The controls on the pre-amp provide a wide range of adjustment which makes the amp work great with most effects pedals.
The pre-amp section has the standard Treble, Middle and Bass controls positioned after the overdrive circuit, giving the greatest control over eq response, with four additional switches: Gain, Bite, Low-mids and High-mids.
Mid Switches: Though we like the treble and bass frequencies, the shape of the mids is most critical, and it is what our ears are most sensitive to. Most amps have a pre set EQ shape that is set to one position by the designer, this shape often sets the key difference in tone between manufacurers and can make or break an amp for a specific situation and can affect how the amp works with drive pedals. The two switches on the front panel provide three settings giving the Talon user far more shaping tools to work with, allowing for deeper scooped tones and thicker midrange tones.
Fat Switch: a three-position Fat switch allows you to further adjust the lower bass and top boost sections in the pre-amp
Clipper Switch: a three position clipper switch gives you the option to choose all valve overdrive, zener diode clipping or LED clipping for the overdrive tones, all three are usable and slightly different in tone and feel.
The power section is fixed biased giving approx 50w clean output and more when run distorted. Bias Adjustment is completed internally and there is sufficient range to adjust for EL34's, 6L6's or 6550 power valve types..
The power section features a dampening control which adjusts the power section feedback to allow chimey tones that you would typically associate with Class A cathode biased amps and can be turned up for a stiffer, faster response with a big low end and tight high end, great for hard rock gigs.
Every amp is hand built to order and we have a wide range of custom coverings and finishes that you cannot get anywhere else including the one shown here, which is a Gryphin Blue covering with Gold faceplates.
The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.
