“Everybody Loves the Sunshine” unheard isolated vocals 🌞 in the actual recording of this iconic 1976 jazz-funk R&B pop hit, co-vocalists Ayers and Debbie Darby traded some sexy ad-libs at the end which were left off the final mix (they happen just after the fadeout on the original multitrack); perhaps they were just a little too sexy for a song about bees and trees and flowers? 🐝 there’s not a lot of information about Darby, aka Chicas, besides her having worked with Ayers between 1975 & 1979 on three albums (Mystic Voyage, Sunshine and Vibrations) and being the co-lead vocalist on “Everybody Loves the Sunshine”☀️ Roy said her nickname was given to her “because she was a fine chick, a good-looking girl who sang it so beautifully. She was the star of the show.” According to a google groups message thread she’s still alive, singing gospel and studying to be a minister in N.C…. we at One Song wish her much sunshine! ✨On the latest One Song podcast we break down the stems & stories behind “Everybody Loves the Sunshine” by Roy Ayers
