I have sampled an interview with Herbie Hancock, hence - the track title. It's pretty simple jungle tune made on Akai S1000 and mixed on Mackie CR1604. In the picture is the actual set up used to make this tune (2012, Brighton). When I was hooked on the hardware haze - i was in a never ending rabbit hole. I had to try as much gear as i could. Living in UK things like that were very easy. I would use a mixing desk, then seeing youtube videos of what people use - i would sell it and buy another one. Or I would buy a DBX compressor, but it would't be good on drums so i would sell it and buy alesis, and so on and on. There's one fundamental difference in working with hardware vs computers - workflow. Something i miss, making music with dedicated hardware, having to rely on your ears more than your eyes, being able to twist those effect knobs, or adjust compressor with your hands, moving those mixer sliders, not having to mess up with a mouse through different windows of many plugins. The only thing i didn't like about hardware - you have to have lots of physical space (being a family man and having a kid around this just wasn't an option anymore), lots of power sockets, hundreds of cables which is always a mess. I am a minimalist and being compact serves me well for the time being.
